Today 98% of Americans have dental benefits through separate policies. Until the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) acts to accept these 'stand-alone' policies, 22.9 million children of parents employed by small business will have their existing dental coverage duplicated by their medical policy and could lose access to their family dentist.
HHS should protect the dental policies that millions of American families enjoy and ensure equitable choices of dental coverage by small business.
The National Association of Dental Plans, a non-profit trade association representing the dental benefits industry, has provided policy makers with common-sense recommendations for offering stand alone pediatric dental policies when the new Exchanges are implemented in 2014.
